Kohat: The former tribal districts, which are now part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as Darra Adamkhel tehsil of Kohat region will get full administrative setup and offices within six months, a news source reported.
Kohat Regional Police Officer (RPO) Tayyab Hafeez Cheema expressed his views on the matter. He said that Kurram and Orakzai districts and Darra Adamkhel tehsil have been merged with old Kohat region, which previously comprised Kohat, Hangu and Karak.
He said that the DSPs were recently assigned duties in their respective areas following the appointment of district police officers. So far, at least 39 police officials, including DPO, are serving in each tribal area.
RPO Cheema said that the newly merged tribal districts would soon get police assistance lines, police access service and dispute resolution councils (DRCs). He added that the DRCs would replace the centuries-old jirga system.
At present, the provincial government is negotiating with tribal elders for acquiring land for setting up offices in the formal tribal belts.
