Lahore: The Punjab government has identified 200 acres of land along the Upper Jhelum Canal for the development of Gujrat Industrial Estate Phase-II, news sources reported.
According to sources, the said land that has been identified is located along with the villages of Saroki, Chak Qazian, and Sheikh Qureshian. To this effect, a report has been submitted to the Planning and Development (P&D) Department for initial scrutiny. However, the final approval for the PKR 1.3 billion industrial project will be provided by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP).
As per the details, the second phase of the project is being developed at the request of the Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GtCCI) and upon the suggestion of Federal Minister for Water Resources Chaudhry Moonis Elahi. In the following two years, the industrial estate will be developed and will feature industrial plots of 1 to 10-marla and 2, 4 kanals. The government, however, has not yet set the prices for the plots. The project was first planned in 1992 at a different site, but it was never realised owing to litigation and land acquisition issues. However, in response to GtCCI’s request, the government has revised its position on the project.
