Murree: Authorities in Murree have finalized comprehensive security and traffic arrangements ahead of the expected influx of tourists during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, with officials anticipating between 400,000 and 500,000 visitors to the hill station.
District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer, issued a detailed travel advisory in a video message on Tuesday, urging tourists to download the “Safe Tourism Murree” mobile application prior to their journey, calling it essential for a smooth and secure visit.

Official data from Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 shows a consistently high tourist inflow, with 28,688 vehicles entering Murree on the first day, followed by 51,380 and 57,855 vehicles on the second and third days, respectively. On the fourth day, 35,119 vehicles were recorded, bringing the total number of visitors to an estimated 400,000 to 600,000 during the holiday period.
Dr. Tanveer noted that while court directives limit Murree’s daily vehicle capacity to 8,000, the number often exceeds 12,000 during peak occasions such as Eid and New Year’s Eve. In response, a specialized traffic management plan has been implemented to regulate the expected surge and ensure smoother movement across key routes.
Highlighting the role of technology, the DPO said the “Safe Tourism Murree” app serves as a centralized platform offering one-touch access to essential emergency services, including the Police, Rescue 1122, Traffic Police, and Motorway Police. The application also features a Virtual Women Police Station to enhance safety for female travelers.
Additionally, the app provides direct WhatsApp connectivity with the DPO for emergencies, real-time information on hotels and tourist locations, police station details, and weather updates through an integrated AI chatbot.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain and thunderstorms in Murree and surrounding areas during the Eid holidays. Authorities have advised tourists to stay updated on weather conditions, drive carefully in rain and fog, and strictly follow traffic regulations.
“Ensuring a safe and friendly environment for tourists is our top priority,” Dr. Tanveer said, adding that the Safe Tourism initiative represents a significant step forward in improving visitor facilitation and public safety in the region.
Tourists have been encouraged to dial 15 or use the mobile application in case of any emergency.
