Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the province’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Roadmap, an initiative aimed at strengthening the technology sector, improving governance and generating new employment opportunities.
The roadmap outlines a strategy to expand the use of artificial intelligence across key sectors, with the provincial government targeting the creation of more than 100,000 jobs over the next three years. Officials said the initiative is also expected to support economic growth by promoting innovation, digital services and technology-driven industries.
As part of the plan, the government will establish an AI Delivery Unit to oversee the implementation of AI-based solutions in governance and public services. The chief minister will chair both the delivery unit and a special project team responsible for executing the roadmap.

During a briefing on the initiative, Provincial Adviser on Artificial Intelligence Ali Dar informed participants that the programme could contribute significantly to economic expansion by supporting technology-led businesses and encouraging foreign investment.
The roadmap focuses on several key areas including AI infrastructure development, AI-based public administration, citizen services, workforce skills development and AI-driven economic growth. Authorities also plan to establish specialised teams to manage data, strategy and communication for the programme.
The chief minister also approved the formation of an AI Technical Advisory Board, which will include experts tasked with guiding policy and supporting the implementation of the roadmap.
Officials said the initiative will also emphasise skill development among young people to prepare them for emerging technology-based careers. As part of these efforts, AI-related curriculum has already been introduced in 100 schools across the province, with plans to expand the programme to more educational institutions.
