Islamabad: Over 27 million saplings will be planted across Gilgil-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) – a news source reported.
This initiative comes as part of the ‘Clean & Green Pakistan’ movement. Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the scheme earlier on October 8.
At least 100 million saplings will be planted till 2021. The project will be completed at a cost of approximately PKR 3.652 billion. Furthermore, an international organisation has provided USD 37.46 million for a lake restoration project.
Recently, the government allocated a sum of PKR 32.4 billion for the Punjab Forest Department. Over five million trees will be planted across the province.
The department had last year set up a geographical laboratory. The government said it intended to map the country’s forest cover. Later on, the use of advanced technology facilitated mapping of over 750,000 acres.
Officials said they were developing a web portal and mobile application for the purpose. The Information Technology Board (PITB) had been assisting the forest department in this regard.
