Rawalpindi: The Punjab Small Dams Organization (PSDO) has approved the construction of six mini dams in Rawalpindi Division, with the issuance of funds worth PKR 15 million for the initiation of the topographic survey of the dam sites, as reported by a news source on December 6. In addition to these mini dams, the organization has also given the green light for the construction of Kotli Sattian Dam.
Reportedly, the topographic survey will be completed in the next two months, after which the construction work on the dams will commence. Sources suggest that the work on these dams is likely to start by May or June 2024. According to the details, the dams in Rawalpindi Division will be constructed in Jhelum, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, and Attock Districts, irrigating up to 20,000 acres of land and supplying water to the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. These mini dams will also include new amusement parks.
For the recently established Murree District, the construction of a mini dam in Tehsil Kotli Sattian was also approved. This part of Murree District features towering mountain peaks where several new tourist sites and recreational sports have been developed in recent years.
