Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Monday approved 11 projects worth a total of PKR 71.66 billion, according to a news report. As per the publication, these projects were approved in a meeting chaired by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr Jehanzeb Khan.
At this meeting, the CDWP approved eight projects worth PKR 31.44 billion, and forwarded three projects worth PKR 40.22 billion to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval. This is because the CDWP does not have the mandate to approve a project worth over PKR 10 billion, and has to forward such cases to the ECNEC for review — once it approves them on technical grounds.
The 11 projects which were approved were from various sectors such as energy, governance, devolution & area development, water resources, science & technology, transport & communications, and physical planning & housing. Some important projects include the first phase of electricity provision to the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and the establishment of a centre for artificial intelligence in health sciences.
