Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has managed to recover PKR 1.3 billion from at least 2,000 high-net worth individuals during the past two months, a news source reported.
So far, the federal agency has issued notices to more than 6,000 wealthy tax evaders. These individuals reportedly own properties and assets including factories, flats, agricultural land, and companies abroad.
According to FBR, these people have allegedly evaded taxes worth PKR 3 billion. The board has forwarded a list to its regional tax offices in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Multan, and Bahawalpur.
The action is being taken on the directives of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan. The government plans to bring all citizens living beyond their means under the tax net. This measure will serve to create a sense of deterrence – geared for enforcing effective taxation.
