Karachi: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi has asked the public to provide donations in a bid to facilitate the recently launched ‘Clean Karachi’ drive, a news source reported. The minister had officially launched the campaign last Sunday.
Zaidi has stated that they need funds worth PKR 1.75 billion over a period of 90 days in order to successfully carry out the campaign for cleaning the city. According to the workout planned for the drive, different agencies have been tasked with cleaning the streets and roads, and lifting the garbage. Meanwhile, the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) took the sole responsibility of clearing the main roads and major drains.
The administration of the campaign has tasked the District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) with cleaning the streets, roads, and small drains within their jurisdictions. It gave 17 land controlling agencies, including the six cantonment boards, the responsibility of cleaning areas and lifting garbage in their jurisdictions.
When Zaidi announced the campaign last week, he received significant support from prominent personalities and the city’s public. The minister has now requested for donations for commencing with the two-week long initiative.
